Dan Welton - "Higher Love (+ Ross Couch Remixes) (Dorigen)

---

DJ Magazine - Review by Pete Gooding:

"There are three mixes features here, so first up is the Original mix, which is a dark, moody percussive slice of standard progressive house. Not bad but nothing memorable to be honest - it could make a good enough set filler though. On Side B, however ,it's a different story with the Ross Couch House Remix, which is the coolest deep house track I've heard for ages. It starts with lively percussive beats, soulful, housey chords and a cool, warm bassline. As it develops, a great little electronic sequence takes over adding a classic sound. This is a beautiful track and sort of reminds me of the vibe of old Don Carlos productions. Then the Ross Couch Bass Remix is the final mix, a deeper, dirtier more heads down mix - not bad and beats the Original mix if you want something a little tougher" 4/5

DJ Magazine -Review by Dan Irwin:

"The original of this is an okay chuggy, proggy, tribal tune from Swiss producer Dan Welton but it's Scotland's Ross Couch who comes up with the techy goods here. Couch's 'Bass remix' lifts vocal samplse from the original and layers them over driving beats, dirty acidic bass and twisted keyboard riffs for a tough-but-groovy tech funker. Proper heads-down gear that still manages to work some decent melodies into the mix, this is good stuff from the Scotsman. Also included is a more housey Couch interpretation, which combines techy beats with dreamy piano." 3/5

Update Magazine:

"Swiss producer Dan Welton makes his debut with a bassy space-chugger that aims to make the big room splash and pulls one off. It's that girl going 'I love you' from the early 90s, injecting some Orby feel with the 'Pulsating Brain' bass line and using a familiar conga pattern. The record's desirability is further enhanced courtesy of a Ross Couch remix. His House outing is tough with jazzy piano, sexy pads and twinkling Mayday-style stabs. His Bass Remix strips down, straps on a new bass-line and takes the heads-down early hours approach. These categories can be so difficult sometimes - this is good house music but its accessories lend the 'Prog' tag." 4 / 5 Kris Needs

IDJ Magazine : Review by Jez Torrance - 4/5

‘Not too fussed about the proggy slickness of Welton’s original, so instead it’s best to stock with the couple of rerubs from Ross Couch. More house depth, more sweet chords and more shuffle on the House remix. More bleeps, more urgency and more for the proper tech floors on the Bass remix.’

"Dan Welton is a new name to me, and he can be found releasing his track “Higher Love” on Dorigen Music. Dorigen is one of the more established progressive labels, and this release keeps the vibe going nicely. The original is solid enough, but for me the “Ross Couch House Remix” is the one of the two Couch mixes on the “B” side to go for. Mr Couch uses the foundations of the original whilst coupling it with his own trademark production to give us a very useful DJ tool." 7.5/10

Is this going to be the blueprint for future Dorigen releases? If so, its certainly a great sound, equally at home in clubs or one of the cooler bars!
