Ross
Couch - "Instant Access / DJ Lucca RMX" (Bellboy)

"Ross
Couch is on his fourth release for Bellboy. His techno driven
funk has been seen in charts of techno and progressive djs all
over the world, and ‘Instant Access’ is yet another
fine example of his style, with many layers, and a whole lot
of momentum. We also get a remix by DJ Lucca, where she puts
her own spin on things.
‘Instant
Access’ starts out tuff and driving. A kick along with
different layers of high hats change and layer on top of each
other. A funky bassline starts growling underneath. Making quick
changes and moving through various patterns, we come to a rest.
Keeping with the high energy feel, we go straight back into
the drums. The momentum is amazing, and stabs push the tune
harder. A proper funky techno track.
'DJ
Lucca' is a techno dj from the Czech Republic. She has had a
couple of releases out, and has dj’ed all over Spain,
Germany, and beyond. This is her first remix to come out on
Bellboy, and what a doozy it is. A kick starts things up, and
a clap comes in. Tiny high hats flutter above. The hook is changed
to a very stern hard stab sound. There’s a few other tones
lingering and she has created a nice percussive groove.
Bellboy
is a cool label for techno-influenced tunes. They always seem
to be on the cutting edge, with very percussive but groovy songs.
This is another fine example of great tracks they choose to
put out."

"A
new release on the British Bellboy label, the label that was
originated ten years ago by Aberdeen’s Chris Cowie. Various
names have been releasing since then with DJ Misjah, Vegas Soul
and 808 State to name just a few. This new release is the fourth
for Ross Couch on the label.
On the A-side the original of 'Instant Access' is featured.
An easy rolling bass-driven beat gets accompanied by shifting
hi-hat and minimal tribal action. The synths, which are giving
the track its very funky identity, make the track a real tech-house
banger and very useable for the dancefloor. The flip offers
the remix by female DJ Lucca, who is from the Czech Republic.
Her interpretation of the track is deeper, the hi-hat action
is less on top and the sound of it is darker. The ongoing synths
of the original have been cut up and this has created a more
loopey effect to the track. Although this remix has a less 'hands
in the air' feel it is also very good in its own way.
Two versions
of the same track that are both very useable by DJ's playing
the sound varying from house to techno and everything inbetween."

Ross. It's a bit too tough for my taste, but it rolls down like
a train on the loose...Peaktime stuff which makes the dancefloor
go bezerk:-) Like the Lucca mix the most due to a little disco-esque
influence in the used sounds. Nice old school kick drum as well.
Pumpin' tune." Review forthcoming 7/10.update

after the more soulful 'soulstrings'. Absolutely tears up the
floor with that thunder rolling b-line, break to frighten the
neighbours and those stabs!! B-side - nice percussion, solid
stabby groover." 9/10
